'The Basketball Program Is In Need' - Bob Huggins, Keeps Acting Like Costanza And Doubles Down About Not Resigning From WVU
I never thought I'd see the day Bob Huggins turned right into George Costanza but here we are.
This time he has his own statement which addresses a few of the things. 1) He's checked into rehab after the DUI incident. 2) He once again says he never resigned from WVU, this time claiming WVU falsified his statement about resigning. 3) The basketball program is in need and he wants to coach.
That last one is the one that keeps getting me. What the hell does he mean the basketball program is in need? They hired one of his assistants to be an interim coach. That's not even a ricochet shot at Josh Eilert, that's just Huggins saying the team needs him specifically. Way to really drive home the support for Eilert there Huggy!
WVU didn't take long to respond:
I don't know man, those details are pretty specific. You come in with exact timing and length and I'm going to blindly believe it happened. You can be a good enough liar but once you start doubling down with specifics you're going to win me over in an argument. Laugh out loud funny in the last paragraph when WVU says 'Even if we accept your position (which we do not)'. I mean, we're talking about a power conference, big time athletics program putting in that little part in like a blogger.
Again, part of this seems like Huggins fighting for his paycheck in the buyout and part of it is Huggins just being who he is. Stubborn as shit, refusing to accept he's not a head coach anymore. Either way you can't draw up a weirder ending to his career and his time at WVU, a place that is quite literally his home.
